OSAC On the Road in Asia
OSAC spent much of March on the road in Asia supporting Country Councils and conducting the first of two ISMA-OSAC meetings in 2018. Several of these events were funded by ISF and generous corporate sponsors. Enjoy the OSAC recap of these important events:
Hotel Security Working Group (HSWG): Bangkok, Thailand
The 9th Annual Hotel Security Working Group Training Seminar was held in Bangkok from March 12-14. RISC Chief James Weston and HSWG Program Officer Shari-Ann Peart attended the event along with more than 210 security personnel from OSAC constituent hotels to hear industry and security experts discuss topics relevant to hotel safety and security. One of the highlights of the event was a half-day focused on practical emergency medical instruction provided by ARIS Medical from Singapore. Council Member Mark Sanaa from Hyatt attended as well. All-Vietnam Country Council: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
On March 15, the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh Country Councils convened their 4th annual meeting at the American Center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Attendees included 45 individuals from Bangkok, Manila, Singapore, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City representing their companies attended. OSAC Executive Director Tom Scanlon presented an overview of OSAC’s programming, highlights from 2017 and efforts moving forward. The event focused on cyber security with additional presentations from Deputy Chief of Mission Hanoi, Regional Security Officer Ho Chi Minh City, IRM Officer Hanoi, Hill & Associates, Meridian Compass Ltd., Long Hai Security – Securitas Vietnam, Baker McKenzie, and more. ISMA-OSAC Southeast Asia Regional Security Conference: Manila, Philippines
OSAC and ISMA held their first regional event of 2018 in Manila the Philippines on Security in the East Asia and Pacific region from March 18-20. U.S. Ambassador Sung Kim opened the event. Topics addressed aviation security in the Philippines, counter-terrorism efforts, cyber fraud in the region and questions and answers from Regional Security Officers from Manila, Bangkok, Singapore, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. OSAC Executive Director Tom Scanlon, RISC Chief James Weston and Regional Analyst Morgan Dibble and Program Officer Matt Boote presented.
While OSAC was in Manila and with Ambassador Kim present, OSAC Executive Director Tom Scanlon presented the 2017 East Asia Pacific Country Council Achievement Award for 2017 to the Manila Country Council. All-China General Assembly: Shanghai, China
On March 22, OSAC convened 138 private sector representatives during the fourth annual All-China General Assembly at Nike’s Greater China Headquarters in Shanghai, China. This all-day meeting brought together all China Country Councils and regional security managers representing companies such as Nike, Apple, Disney, Mattel, academic institutions, Caterpillar, Cisco, the NFL, Hilton and more. OSAC contributed significantly to the content of the day with presentations by Tom Scanlon, Regional Security Officers from Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Guangzhou, OSAC’s RISC Chief James Weston, and OSAC’s East Asia and Pacific Analyst. The All-China General Assembly continues to be an essential way for security personnel operating in China to both learn and share vital information.
Travel continues with OSAC’s South and Central Asia team heading to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in early April and mid-April trips to Mali, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Morocco and Tunisia.
